Permissions #
In the eStrata application, zero or more Permissions are associated with each Role. One or more Roles are assigned to each User.
Each user role has permissions that allow users with that role to perform certain tasks in the application. You can give additional capabilities to an existing role or take away their capability to perform certain actions.
Navigate the Permissions screen #
- Navigate to People > Roles
- Navigate through the list of Roles and tap a Role’s title link to view its properties.
- Tap the cog icon in the upper right corner of the Role's properties page.
- From the cog’s drop-down menu, tap Permissions.
Note: You can only edit the permissions associated with site-level roles. If there's no option to view Permissions, you are probably looking at a system role or a site role created by Adedia. Please contact us if you have questions.
Core Permissions #
On the Permissions screen (People > Roles > Permissions), permissions for a role are organized by module.
Core permissions (i.e. those associated with the Core application) are available and can be set for all roles. Module-specific permissions (such as those associated with News, Articles, Document Storage, etc.) are listed only if those modules are installed in your application.
For each Role, the Core permissions are as follows:
Permission: Manage users
Description: Allows a user to list, edit, approve, reject, suspend and cancel user accounts.
What does it do?: If a Role with this Permission is assigned to a User, that User will be able to manage and maintain the list of users associated with your site/application.
You would only assign this Permission to an administrative role.
Permission: Manage roles
Description: Add, create, delete roles and modify role permissions
What does it do?: If a Role with this Permission is assigned to a User, that user will be able to manage and maintain the list of roles defined for your site/application.
You would only assign this Permission to an administrative role.
Permission: Configure site
Description: Allows a user to configure site settings
What does it do?: If a Role with this Permission is assigned to a User, that user will have access to the 'Configure Site' settings.
You would only assign this Permission to an administrative role.
Permission: Administer pages
Description: Allows a user to create, modify and delete pages
What does it do?: If a Role with this Permission is assigned to a User, that user will be able to create, modify and delete pages on the site.
Permission: Edit page content
Description: Allows a user to edit the content of pages
What does it do?: If a Role with this Permission is assigned to a User, that user will be able to edit the content on site pages.
Permission: Private access
Description: Allows a user to view private pages
What does it do?: Certain site content may be deemed private and can only be viewed by authorized site members.
This setting gives you the opportunity to determine which Roles should have that 'advanced private security'.
If you assign this Permission to a Role (e.g. Residents), then all Residents will be able to see those pages/articles/blog posts etc. that you've said are viewable by 'Private' users.
This is an advanced setting that enables you to hide some content from site guests. So, for example, you may not give the Private Access permission to a realtor. The realtor, when signed in, might see 90% of your site content, but he won't see the 10% that you've decided to only share with those Roles that have 'Private Access'.
